5 Signs That It's Time to Look For A New Job
Written by Virginia Sarkis
As we have now reached the middle of the year, it is important to assess where you are in your career & if you are happy where you are. Sometimes people get so stuck into their daily routines, they do not have time to think about whether the position they are in is right for them or not. Here are my 5 signs that should act as a warning to you that it may be time to start looking for a new job.
You are not feeling challenged
If you have been with a company for a while it is very easy to get lost in your daily routines, making it an almost automatic process which doesn't give you much room to think or challenge yourself. It can be very easy to have a "safe" job where you do the same thing day in & day out. In the long run you want a position that challenges you & gives you the ability to experience new things & learn new skills. If your current position isn't giving you this, it may be time to consider a change.
Your not performing to the best of your ability
This is similar to the above point, in which if you are performing the same tasks every week, it may become irritating or even boring to some. We all have our bad days where we feel overworked and unappreciated, however if this is something you experience on a daily basis, it may be time for a change. You must frequently feel motivated to work hard & achieve great outcomes and without this strive for achievement you wont be able to achieve much in your current position.
Your not receiving your desired salary
For most, salary plays a huge reason as to why people leave their positions. Do you feel you are getting paid enough for your hard work? If not, it may benefit you to look at current market rates for someone in your position & with your job title.
You don't have an opportunity to grow & progress
It is important in any position, that you have the opportunity to learn new things, whether it be building up your technical skills or being trained on how to deal with customers. There must always be an opportunity to learn something. If your current employer doesn't offer you this you will have no room to grow and expand your knowledge.
You cannot imagine a future with your existing employer
If you cannot imagine a future for yourself at your current company than something isn't right. It may be that your not feeling challenged, or that you job has become a routine. If you have a long, hard think about where you want to be in 5 or 10 years, does it involve working with the same company? If not, it may be time to start looking for a new position.
