5 tips to nail the phone interview
Most recruitment processes these days involves a phone interview first, prior to meeting face to face. Therefore, it will be your first chance to make a good impression to land the second interview.
Here are our six top tips:
- Dress to success
It may sound like a no brainer since this is a phone interview. However,
Did you know: “ researchers found that clothes have a systematic influence on the person’s psychological processes” (Source: Forbes). Wearing the right clothes will put you in the right mindset, boosting your confidence.
- Find a good location
Ensure that you are in the area with good phone reception and not much distraction. If you are using your computer for the interview, you can download a noise remove application Krisp, to remove all background noises.
- Prepare some notes
What’s great about the phone interview is that you can have a little cheat sheet. Prepare some dot points; outline some answers that you may be asked in the note. However, make sure that you won’t be just reading from the note (the interviewer will know from your tone). Therefore, practice is key!
- Speak clearly
Communicate your words clearly, you don’t want to miss any important points.
- Don’t end the conversation first!
Ask if the interviewer has any more questions for you. It’s very important that you can keep the conversation going and give the recruiter some chances to clear out any concerns about you.
