February 2011 marks a major milestone for Directors and Founders of EBR, Michelle Seeto & Soong Chong, and this needs to be acknowledged. Ten years ago they embarked on the journey of becoming entrepreneurs and turning their dream into a reality. They took a risk and have made a difference to many people.

Having been in business for almost 20 years now, I can honestly say that the easiest part is getting started. I remember the excitement of it all, being highly motivated by the possibility of running my own business, inspired by what might be and there is no doubt that blind faith helped me to navigate through my fears and concerns of taking the risk. What I also know is that the beginning stages of a business can also be incredibly contagious and attracts people who want to be on the journey with you.

A Way of Life

So, if it’s easy to start, then why do a lot of businesses not make it? Well, the short answer is: most people don’t set out with the intention that being a business owner is a way of life. Too often, people go into business with one foot in but equally have one foot out – just in case it doesn’t work out. And let’s face it, taking on this level of responsibility can sometimes be overwhelming. Not to mention maintaining a level of excitement, passion and inspiration 365 days, multiplied by life!

Keys to Success

Ten years ago, it was thought that a 5-year plan was the thing to do. In our current environment it’s about having a 12-month plan, accompanied by four major milestone periods to remain focused, flexible and be able to achieve a sense of satisfaction. As business owners, we are driven by results and need deadlines.

So, think about what you could achieve if you broke your decade into 10 x 12-month periods.

Get started today:
  • Dream – what are you inspired to achieve?
  • Taking action – a dream without action is just a nice idea – where could you be in 12 weeks time?
  • Commitment – be in action even if things aren’t going as planned or you just don’t feel like it

I’m excited about EBR’s next decade and what’s possible for them.  How do you feel about your next decade?  It’s time to create something that lights you up. Get excited, passionate, and enthusiastic and be inspired by what’s possible in 2011.

Have an amazing month!
