Are you interested in earning $10K to 20K more?

Well did you know that working on projects which require a high level of security can pay $10-20K extra depending on your skill set?

If it is an area that you are interested in then you need a security clearance.

A person with security clearance will have access to national classified or sensitive information, and it is important that the information is protected and handled appropriately.

To get started, you must apply to the Defence Security Agency (DSA), who will assign you a Case Officer, who will help you through the process. The 3 major elements to obtaining a security clearance are:

  1. A security assessment by the Australian Security and Intelligence Organisation (ASIO);
  2. Assessment of your overall suitability to hold a security clearance
  3. Ongoing monitoring action to determine your continuing suitability to hold a national security clearance

The ASIO assessment is mandatory for clearances at the Confidential, Secret and Top Secret levels. There are many different levels of security clearances which may include:

  • Negative vetting (NV) clearances (i.e. Restricted, Confidential, Secret and Top Secret (NV)
  • Positive vetting (PV) clearance (i.e. Top Secret (PV)

The greater the security clearance, the more stringent the requirements. So be prepared to have every aspect of your life looked at. This may include:

  • Current and previous personal circumstances
  • Current and previous personal financial affairs
  • Police checks
  • Psychological tests
  • Completing a personal history booklet
  • Interview

If you are uncomfortable with providing any of information above, it is unlikely that you will progress to the next stage and be granted a security clearance.

Before you rush off to get a security clearance, you must also be sponsored by your company.

Good Luck.
