CEO Corner: The Best Invention Ever!
Written by Soong Chong, Director
The number of gadgets flooding the market is huge. These would include new iPhone, iPad, Samsung Galaxy and the BlackBerry PlayBook, to name a few.
And you can do a plethora of things with them. You can check your email, browse the internet, instant message someone, update your friends on your status, such where you are, what you are doing and who you are doing it with.
So "what is the best invention is ever"? And how has it positively impacted your life?
Is it the latest gadget like iPhone or iPad?
Maybe it's the PC or MAC Is it something simpler like the phone or the light bulb or TV (cathode ray tube, plasma or LED)?
Or something primal like "electricity"?
Or is it an application like facebook, twitter or skype?
For me, I love all the gadgets, but it has occurred to me that they are a distraction.
Sure, they are entertaining and lots of people are having fun with it. So I can say without a doubt that the big plus of these inventions is that we can instantly communicate with people across the globe.
However, my vote goes towards a basic "count down timer" and a "to do" list. It can be a simple electronic timer or a small sand hour glass and a paper and pen. In terms of productivity, it has increased my output by 400%. I write down the tasks I need to complete and set a time limit on it.
We all have the same 24 hours in a day and I am much more productive with a "count down timer" and a "to do" list, rather than an electronic gadget with which I can update the world on my status.
What do you think is the best invention ever?
