First impressions are important! When meeting a potential employer for the first time, they immediately form an opinion of you based on what you're wearing and how you carry yourself. Regardless of the work environment, it's important to dress professionally for a job interview because how you dress can either make or break the job interview. The following is a guide to dressing for a formal interview:

Men's Interview Attire
  • Suit in a solid colour such as navy, black, or dark grey
  • Long sleeved shirt that is white or colour coordinated with the suit
  • Leather belt
  • Tie
  • Dark socks and conservative leather shoes
  • Little or no jewellery
  • Neat, professional hairstyle
  • Limited amount of aftershave
  • Neatly trimmed nails
  • Portfolio or briefcase
Women's Interview Attire
  • Suit in navy, black, or dark grey
  • Suit skirt just below or above the knee
  • Coordinated blouse
  • Conservative shoes
  • Limited jewellery
  • No dangling earrings or arms full of bracelets
  • No jewellery is better than cheap jewellery
  • Professional hairstyle
  • Neutral coloured pantyhose
  • Light make-up and limited amount of perfume
  • Clean, neatly manicured nails
  • Portfolio or briefcase
