How to Introduce New Employees to your Company
The first stage of being a newly hired employee can be difficult and nerve wracking for many. The introductions, cluelessness and mishaps tend to be common with new, nervous employees. So to make their transition into their new work environment easier, you will need to help them build their self-confidence, ensure that they are clear on their roles, help them integrate into the community seamlessly and educate them on your company’s culture and expectations. This may seem like too much work, but employees are valuable assets, and helping them adapt to your company can actually be fairly easy.
Introduce them to the company before they start
Instead of throwing them into the deep end on their first day, it is highly recommended to slowly introduce them into your company before they officially start working. By gradually introducing them to your company before they are loaded with duties to complete, the employees will build their knowledge about the company, which consequently increases their confidence. Therefore, they will be able to head into their first day of work less stressed.
You can introduce them slowly to your company before their official start in multiple ways. Holding an orientation is a classic way of introducing new employees into the company. Another is to allow them to complete all of their paperwork well before their first day. Or if your company is involved with community events, then allowing new employees to participate in those before starting work will help them meet your company’s employees and understand the team dynamic.
Be a point of contact for them
Being a new employee can be confusing, as meeting new people, having new deadlines and expectations can easily make a new employee become more scatter brained and stressed. So allowing them to have someone who is already well accustomed to the company as a point of contact will greatly improve clarity and expectations. It is a good idea to make this person someone that the employee had already become familiar with during the recruitment stage, such as an interviewer or someone from orientation.
Tie tasks to company expectations and values
One way to help new employees become familiar with the work culture and environment is to make them complete tasks where the ties between work and values are clear. When assigning a new project to the employee, make it clear as to why the particular task is important to the company’s values and goals.
Create fun games for seamless social integration
Don’t let your new employees to be stressed with both new work and meeting complete strangers, you can instead allow them the opportunity to meet with their new colleagues by holding sporting events or dinners. By doing this, you will allow them to meet their co-workers in a less pressuring environment.
