How to make a good impression on your first day of work
First of all, congratulations! You passed your interview and got your job. Starting fresh next Monday, it is very important to make a positive impression on your first day of work. Here are 6 things you can do to make a good impression on the very first day:
- Arrive early
Get to work on time, perhaps even early a bit. It shows that you value your job and have great time management. Also, notice and learn about the work culture of your company. What time does everyone leave? Even if your contract says you can leave at 5pm, it’s not so great if you leave before everyone else on your first day of work.
- Look professional
Before everything else, people will judge on how you look. It doesn’t mean that you need to fully dress up or wear designer clothes, but be nicely groomed and dress professionally. You want to convey the message of professionalism, trustworthy and being organized.
- Positive attitude
Be enthusiastic and friendly with everyone. Be positive about any tasks given to you. Ask for help if you don’t know anything.
- Put your phone in silent
Proper phone manner is very important, not just on your first day of work. Follow the company policies on mobile phones and only use it when necessary.
- Spend time after work to get to know everyone
If you are invited to after-work activities with your new workers, go along and spend some time to get to know everyone. It’s the best time for you to understand who you will be working with and bond with them.
- Do your homework
Gather some information about the company before your first day. Like work culture or regular events. It will make it easier for you to get to know what happens at work, and also provide you with some topics to talk to your new colleagues about.
