Job Interviews can be very daunting and stressful. Regardless of how you may be feeling, it is important to be able to perform well. These are my top 5 tips on how to perform well at a job interview.
1. Be Prepared
Once you have been notified of your job interview, you must make sure you prepare yourself. This includes doing some research on the company in order to become familiar with it, and it also means looking over your job application form.
2. Arrive Early
It is always smart to arrive at least 15 minutes early for your interview. It portrays you as prompt and prepared in the eyes of the employer. Also if the interview is being conducted in an area you are not familiar with, it wouldn't hurt to do some additional research on how to get to the venue. Additionally, should you be running late for any reason it is always polite to call and inform your interviewer.
3. Dress Appropriately
There is no doubt that first impressions always count. It is vital that you dress appropriately. For women this may include wearing a two piece matched suit, with hair tied back and minimal jewellery. For men this may include wearing a suit and being well groomed and shaven.
4. Be Confident
Confidence is key. You have to sell yourself to the employer and in order to do that you must be confident. This means standing up straight, giving a firm handshake, talking in a clear voice and keeping eye contact. When answering questions its best to be concise and to avoid waffling.
5. Ask Questions
At the end of the interview its is common that the interviewer will ask you ifyou have any questions. It is wise to do so as it shows interest in the company on your part. In addition, it is important to show enthusiasm and keenness for the job. You should also reassure your interviewer on why you will be a great asset to the company and how you stand out from the other applicants.
