Lead from the Front

Who can believe that we are now entering into the second half of 2010?  This year is definitely giving everyone a run for their money – it’s fast, ever-changing, exciting and challenging and that’s just a snapshot of one day!

So, that being said, a topic of discussion with a number of my clients has been focused on “where are you at?” And, for all of us in leadership roles – it’s probably a very timely question for us to consider.

Time for a Reality Check

I’m passionate about getting my clients to complete a stop and review process that focuses on identifying and acknowledging what has been achieved, what the challenges are and in moving forward what are the top priorities.  By completing the following exercise, it allows you to take stock, accept that you are in the right place, doing the right things and more importantly if you are not on track to achieving your goals, how to get back on track.

So, take a sheet of paper and fill in your answers to the following questions:

  1. First half of 2010 – how do I feel?
  2. What am I most proud of?  What are the standout achievements up to this point?
  3. What have I been most challenged and confronted by?
  4. If the first half of 2010 was a snapshot of my life as a leader, then what are my top priorities for the second half of 2010?

Engage Your Team

Obviously as a consultant and mentor, my role with my clients is to support them to be in action and achieve their aspirations.  So, I highly recommend that if you want to take your business to the next level, then you engage your team to complete this exercise and have a discussion about it.  Initially, schedule some time for yourself to complete the exercise, then schedule a time with your team to do the same.

Celebrate

From a leadership perspective, a lot of leaders struggle to acknowledge and celebrate their achievements. It’s far too easy to just keep moving onto the next goal. However, if you are interested in getting ahead or leading from the front in 2010 – then I highly recommend that you start acknowledging, celebrating and learning to be grateful for everything and anything that is happening in your business.

Why not ‘clear your slate’ and be ready for a new and fresh beginning for July 2010!
