Questions You Should Ask the Interviewer
For all candidates who have ever been to a job interview and been asked "Do you have any questions for me?" before realising that they were not prepared to answer that. Not being prepared for this could cost you the position.
So what are EBR's top 3 questions you should ask the interviewer? They are simple really:
- What do you enjoy most about working here?
- Is there anything I've mentioned that makes you think I'm not the best candidate for this job?
- When do you expect to make your final decision?
Why, you might ask? These questions are important for the following reasons:
- Asking what the interviewer enjoys about working for the organisation means that you can better ascertain whether you are really suited to this position and organisation. Is it really your dream job? Find out by asking this question.
- Asking why you might not be the best candidate means that you are subtly obtaining feedback on your interview and CV skills. If you don't snag this position, you can use the suggestions you get in response to this question for future reference.
- Asking when you can expect a result will give the impression that you are very keen for the particular role and will also give you an indication of when you should start following up the organisation for feedback.
What not to ask? Don't ask about money. You may do this once you actually get the job, but asking when you would be eligible for a raise will not reflect upon you favourably.
The most important thing is to be prepared for this question. Have at least one or two prepared questions to pose to the interviewer about the position or the organisation. Failing to answer this question can often be detrimental to your prospects on obtaining your dream job!
