At the start of the year it is very important for you job seekers out there to update your resume information. Your resume should be updated once every 6 months in order for information to be up to date and accurate. You never know when you will have the opportunity to apply for a new position and it is better to be prepared and organised.

These are a few reasons why your resume should be up to date:

  • Positions may open up which display a sense of urgency and the faster you apply for positions like these, the better. It will give you a leg up on the competition and having your resume ready to go will save time and allow you to apply for jobs without hassle.

  • Having an out of date resume leads the client to believe you are not keen for the position you've applied for and does not make you look prepared and organised in their eyes. Instead of having the client chase you up for updated information, it is better for both parties including the job seeker and the client to have up to date information readily available.

  • In the current economic climate changes can happen very quickly and without warning. This also applies to people who currently are in positions and are working. It is not uncommon for businesses to close unexpectedly which is why your resume should be prepared and ready to go, should that situation come around.

  • Updating your resume will give you a chance to see in what areas you are lacking in experience and will give you an insight into what areas you need to gain experience in. Updating your resume will allow you to take account what has been happening in your career so far and will outline whether you are on track, and also exposes areas in your learning and skills that you will have to take into account and work towards.
