Have you had a challenging experience recently? Resilience is the key to bouncing back, according to business coach Sophie Robertson. "If you think about your resilience as a piece of elastic, it's your ability to flick back into the shape you were in, or stronger, when faced with adversity," she advises.
We don't have the ability to control people or events, so all we can do is alter our own behaviour to meet challenges. This is the "secret ingredient" which will determine whether you "bounce back" or "never get up again". Those who don't think about the positives tend to get bogged down by external events such as the GFC.
How can you bounce back?
- Focus on the positives, by being a glass half-full person.
- Don't just think about your weaknesses, think about your strengths.
- Did you make a bad decision? Learn from it.
- Listen to feedback and take advice. When people provide you with advice or feedback, it's usually because they are looking out for you.
Robertson says that tasks like these will help you to tune your brain into thinking about positives rather than negatives. This is the key to resilienceand to bouncing back from hardships.
