Time Management-Working Mother Success Story
Written by Helena Zak
I love my children. I put my career on hold for a few years, while I nurtured my family at home. They are now at an age where I was able to return back into the work force.
I love being a recruitment consultant. I realise how finding the right job effects the life's of many people indirectly, whether its providing that special dinner for your partner, education for our children or even getting closer to your dream of having your dream home, family holiday, travelling and gaining new life experiences and what this new income can have a positive effect on a lot of people's life and your own family life.
Here are some basic tips of how I achieved it.
- Utilise every spare moment to prepare and plan ahead. I do a bit of planing during children's activities or when commuting to and from work.
- Pack bags and school clothes a day ahead.
- Putting cloth washing on at night.
- Prioritise - When I have a weekend outing with the family I prioritise the following way:
-I put the washing on as it takes the longest time
-I cook (2nd longest time) and while its simmering
-you can then get ready and get changed
-hang out the clothes
-use a slow cooker. You can step out for your family fun day
when you arrive back home, your stew will be simmering ready
for dinner...
- Eat well. It will increase your energy levels
- Teach your child to help out, its a great habit that benefits everyone
- Re-assess. If you find a particular routine is not working out, you need to reassess the problem situation, perhaps get an opinion from another source - for a fresh view, cut back on some things and put the focus on family and work.
When I see my 7 yr old, skip along happy, I can see in her eyes that she is happy and content.I can also see my 10 yr old is starting to model a working Mum, and she is also developing a positive attitude to achieving things, planning and obtaining better grades. This all confirms that it is alright to juggle work and family life together. It is possible to do it and you can do it well!
