So, there is bound to be many extracurricular activities that you can take on for the new year. Extracurricular activities are often considered to be emotionally, mentally and even psychically beneficial for students as it allows them to indulge in new or old interests and take time away from academic pressure. So, here are some popular forms of extra-curricular activities that may interest you.

Faculty societies

Faculty societies are university funded, and student ran societies that are centered around a certain field of study. These are typically less focused on students’ personal interests and more focused on academia and employment assistance. They are typically popular because of how helpful they can be for university students. Many students benefit from becoming a part of the faculty society that they are studying in. This is because these societies often hold networking and other career events, offer internship opportunities, aid with studying, and conduct social networking events where students from the same faculty can meet each other and make new friends. Additionally, it can also be great for students to try out different faculties just in case they find a passion within another field of study and therefore choose to change degrees.

SRC programs

Partaking in SRC programs tend to look good on resumes because it illustrates leadership and teamwork skills. Like faculty societies, it often open doors to internship opportunities and great networking events. Furthermore, you will be able to meet like-minded students and gain some experience on how to lead a team, campaign for your values and ideals, and represent the interests of the larger, university student population.

Student Newspaper

Again, like the SRC programs, curating content or helping put together student newspapers can look impressive on your resume if you are planning on working in the fields of content creation or advertisement. You would be able to prove to future employees that you have a great grasp of language and communication skills. And the published content that you create would serve as physical evidence of your skills.

Volunteering and Community Service

It is always considered to be essential for all students to have completed some form of volunteering or community service work over the course of their degree. It adds value to your resume as it not only highlights your ability to work as a team, but also your humanitarian interests and personal values. You can easily apply your personal interests into some form of volunteering work. For example, if you enjoy the presence of children, then you can volunteer to work at a children’s center. Or if you enjoy cooking, then you can help create food for a bake sale.
