Workplace Safety
Most people dismiss fire drills, thinking they are a waste of time that you and your staff could be spending working. But what if disaster strikes and you find yourself unprepared even for a simple evacuation?
While many of these tips may seem like common sense, you’d be surprised to find out how many people would be unprepared in cases of emergency!
Strategy – Having a plan is important! Identify potential dangers and prepare for the worst. Fire is not the only hazard to you and your staff!
Preparation – Carry out simple fire drills with staff and organise a meeting area away from your workplace in case of emergency. Delegate roles to staff – have a fire warden, have an emergency plan. The most important thing is ensuring that all your employees are familiar with the safety procedures.
Cleanliness – A clean work environment can prevent emergency situations from arising and can quickly determine, and therefore help address, the source of a problem. Tangles of wires coupled with documents streamed over your work space can be dangerous!
It might also be wise to familiarise yourself with OH&S regulations. Make sure you know what procedures can be called for and what rules apply.
Do you have insurance? Have you installed smoke detectors? Ever considered security cameras but not gotten round to having them installed? Now is the time to consider your options. Be safe rather than sorry!
